Trip Overview
Bolaven ”Home of the leven’’ is the largest ethnic group on the plateau. It sits on the bottom of a crater from a grant, extinct volcano, with an altitude of 1000 to 1300 meters. It is rich with waterfall, lush jungles, coffee and plantation, farmland, ethnic diversity as: katu, Alak, Ta-oy and several others, the plateau is famous now for its high quality coffee.
Itinerary
08:30 am - 09:00 am
First stop at Ban Blacksmith village, where is located a traditional agriculture tools manufacture following secular craft procedures. This village also comprises various, small family-run factories that produce anything from a jangle knife to a machete. The various road-side stalls expose lots of knives from different shapes and price.
No working activity on Buddha day.
09:00 am - 10:30 am
After, we continue to a coffee plantation from the Bolaven plateau. There, a specialized guide in Katu village will teach you all about coffee, from the seed to the cup. You will be working softly in the middle of the coffee fields, well-known for the coffee training about the quality of its products.
11:00 am - 01:00 pm
We continue our trip to Tad hang and Tad lor waterfall, wonderful preserved nature site from Bolaven. Before reaching the waterfall, we have to cross a wooden bridge situated in an enchanting environment. The dense vegetation and the calm that reign over this place will amaze you. We will then have lunch at the local restaurant in Tad lor water fall where you can take a swimming as well.
01:30 pm - 02:30 pm
After lunch we will visit the village of Bane Kok Phung Tai. Villagers belong to an animistic group. Therefore, they sacrifice buffaloes, on the full moon of March, to the Spirits which protect their villagers. Young children start smoking tobacco as young as eight years old. Local seasonal vegetables and fruits are sold at the minority market.
02:30 pm - 03:30 pm
Our next destination is Tad Yuang waterfall. This impressive waterfall with twin torrents falls from 40 meters high. The setting is idyllic as it is surrounded by a lush jungle. Be careful when you take stairs to join the waterfall as they are slippery! It’s ok to swim at the bottom but women must wear a sarong.
03:30 pm - 04:00 pm
We will then visit a coffee and tea plantation at Mrs. Soud’s Tea Shop where we will get to learn all the subtleties of smoking and drying tea and enjoy a tea tasting. Coffee, tea, pepper, cinnamon and other many local products are available at this very family atmosphere.
04:00 pm - 04:30 pm
Last stop of this tour will be Tad Fan, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Laos. It is located in the protected area of Dong Hua Sao (NBCA). Surrounded by cliffs, it shows twins water flows falling down 120 meters, in volcano cone and finally meeting in a powerful flow.
During the rainy season the site is permanently clouded by pulverized water and offers to your view a lush jungle. After that we will head back to Pakse.
