Trip Overview

Join our 2-Days sightseeing tour around Xiangkhouang and discover the magical Plain of Jars and ancient stupas. You will also visit ethnic villages and unearth Tham Piew Caves.

Itinerary

DAY 1: PLAIN OF JARS AND MUANG KHOUN
Meet your guide at 8:00 AM at your hotel to start this magical journey from Xiangkhouang! First visit the local market to experience the true Lao lifestyle then transfer to the Jar Site 2, where 93 jars atop a ridge are facing rice fields and villages. Continue to the must-see Jar Site 3, climbing up a hill to a spot of 150 jars. Take your time to feel and enjoy the mysterious and fascinating atmosphere of this archeological place, as well as the great views over the surrounding countryside!

Your guide will then take you to a local restaurant for a well-deserved lunch break.

Then your guide will drive you to the nearby ancient town of Muang Khoun, nearby Xiangkhouang, to explore the ruins of ancient pagodas and temples amongst: Wat Tad Fun, Wat Chom Phet and Wat Phiawat, with its giant sitting Buddha. Walking amongst the ruins, try to imagine and feel the centuries of royal history and the kingdom’s former glory.

Your journey will then take you to the stunning Jar Site 1, the main Jar site. After this last site, your guide will drive you back to Phonsavan and drop you at your hotel by late afternoon.

DAY 2: MUANG KHAM
Meet your guide at 8:00 AM at your hotel. He will drive you to the small town of Muang Kham. On your way there, you will stop to visit ethnic tribes such as Hmong, Phouane and Thai Dam. You will learn more about their lifestyle and traditional handicraft. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Tham Piew Caves, where almost 400 civilians were killed during the Secret War. Then your guide will drive you back to your hotel in Phonsavan by late afternoon. End of tour.
