Phongsaly Culture Tours
Farthest north in Laos is Phongsaly, which shares borders with Yunnan (China) and Dien Bien (Vietnam). Most of Phongsaly Province lies at a high altitude, resulting in a climate that is pleasant and refreshing.
With over 28 different ethnic groups, such as Khmu, Phounoy, Akha and Hor, Phongsaly province is a real melting pot of culture, traditions, costumes, and language.
Phongsaly province is dominated by rugged, mountainous terrain and an abundance of thick forests and fast-flowing rivers. Most of the land is between 500 and 1,500 meters elevation. Phongsaly is thus a perfect place for trekking and other physical activities.
The province capital, Phongsaly Town, features an old quarter with Yunnanese wooden architecture, now rare to find in Yunnan itself. Take some time to visit the “Museum of Ethnic Groups in Phongsaly Province”! It exhibits the various local textiles, artifacts and handicrafts. Take a hike on the Phou Fa Mountain (1,625 meters), up to its beautiful stupa. You will enjoy spectacular views of the town from above and the mountains in the far distance!
Come spend a few days in this peaceful and revitalizing region, where you can enjoy trekking, but also cultural and ethnic tours!
